Tom Mooney
Tom programmes a visual arts festival that coincides with Wexford Festival Opera every October, called Wex-Art, which promotes and supports the work of between 30 to 40 professionally trained artists from Wexford and the South East. Wex-Art in 2022 is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland for the first time. Tom has also curated the Wexford Arts Festival since 2020: last year organising 46 events in 16 venues in 23 days. More recently, Tom has programmed seven indoor concerts at Johnstown Castle in the last eight months, all of which have sold out.
Please tell us about the project you want to develop through the training:
“In August 2022, with the support of Culture Ireland, I curated an exhibition, Cape Sacred, involving the participation of four Irish artists, in Fishguard.
I know that my project needs to grow year by year although I don’t yet have a long term vision about how, but I love ideas, new ideas, practical and imaginative, and I believe this training will inspire me to proceed and develop closer links with West Wales specifically in the areas of contemporary art and music. Secondly, I would like to maximise audience engagement by developing relationships with stakeholders in Wales. ”
